The first barn quilt was an Ohio Star which was unveiled as part of a community celebration at a nearby herb farm. The concept of barn quilts began with Donna Sue Groves and her wish to honor her mother and her Appalachian heritage by having a painted quilt hung on her barn in Adams County, Ohio.

Welcome to the
Boone County Barn Quilt Trail

The first quilt trail began in 2001. A quilt trail is a series of painted wood or metal, hung or free standing, quilt squares installed at various locations along a route, emphasizing significant architecture and/or aesthetic landscapes. A barn quilt is a large, hand-painted wooden block typically displayed on the front or side of a barn. Although the first Quilt Trail was in Ohio, currently North America has quilt trails in 43 of the United States as well as in three Canadian provinces.
In Boone County Kentucky, we have almost 100 various works of Barn Art
